Weight Loss

Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) and Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) is a diabetic drug known as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, and is now approved for weight loss. It works by injecting weekly doses that can be titrated as prescribed weekly or monthly. This medication is by prescription only and medical clearance with the MD/DO/NP/PA is required.

HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT TO BE ON A GLP-1 MEDICATION?

When you start GLP-1 medications, you will review your goal weight with the MD/DO/NP/PA. Once you achieve your goal weight, a maintenance dose will be discussed to ensure you have made the proper LIFESTYLE changes to maintain your goal weight.

CAN I EXERCISE?

Yes. It is imperative to begin your LIFESTYLE changes such as; reduced portions, keep a daily journal of what you eat or drink, exercise at lease 30 minutes 3 times a week (150 minutes/week), increase protein, eat more vegetables and fruits, increase fiber and decrease alcohol consumption and high glucose drinks.

Do I have to change my diet?

Yes, we recommend to reduce your energy intake by 500 calories/day.

Is Semaglutide/Tirzepatide a shot?

Yes both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are weekly shots injected by the patient at home or in our office into a "fatty" are such as the abdomen, upper thighs or back of upper arms.

Semaglutide is also offered in a sublingual form for patients who do not want to take the shot version. The efficacy is comparable, but the results may take longer to see.

WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE?

The following disease processes or illnesses are preliminary contraindications, however, the NP/PA/DO will determine your candidacy:

Liver/Kidney issues

Insulin dependent diabetics/diabetics on multiple diabetic medications 

History of Thyroid Medullary Cancer

History of autoimmune diseases of the digestive system

Pregnant/Breastfeeding patients 

BMI < 27 (unless a comorbidity is present such as hypertension or diabetes)

Ulcerative Colitis, Chron's, Diverticulosis, undiagnosed GI issues or people under the care of a GI Specialist

What is the cost? Can I use my insurance? 

The cost of Semaglutide is $425/vial. Tirzepatide is $725/vial. Once payment and onboarding information is established including medical clearance and labs depicting A1C and lipids such as cholesterol is received, you can expect the medication to be delivered to your home within 7-10 business days. We do not accept insurance at this time.

Is TeleHealth visit an option?

Yes, Expert Aesthetics NP/PA/DO are available to make this chapter of your LIFESTYLE change convenient from home. Added benefit, the medication can be delivered to your home each month. If you prefer to have your medication delivered to one of our offices in DFW, and have your injection administered by one of our RNs or NPs, there is a $25 fee.
